Ready to hit the gym? 6 Ways to Rock that First Workout!
April 12, 2019
This is the beginning of anything you want.
Wanting to hit the gym or a group fitness class, but feeling scared to try something new? Here are 6 ways to kick that fear to the curb!
1. Arrive with a CAN-DO attitude.
A little positivity goes a long way, so NO negative self talk before class. Every other person in that room (including the instructor) was a beginner once - just like you! Remember that
everyone else in that room is on their own fitness journey and that
it takes time & patience to achieve your goals. We're all on the same team!
2. Be a few minutes early.
Set yourself up for success. Many group fitness classes use tools like mats and weights
during the class. Arrive early to make sure that you have all of the right materials!
3. Introduce yourself to the instructor.
Instructors are there for YOU! Your instructor wants nothing more
than for to be successful in that day's class. Say hello when you arrive
and tell them you're new! Chances are that instructor will make sure you get a spot with good
visibility for that day's class and pay special attention to you throughout the class to ensure that always know what's going on!
4. Start easy.
Group fitness classes are made for all levels, so don't worry about looking exactly the same as the instructor or the person next to you. Give yourself permission to take breaks when you need them, and if certain movements don't feel available in your first class, that's okay! Ask the instructor for a different option! There is no shame in resting when you need to or in taking a modification. This workout belongs to YOU!
5. Focus on form.
Safety first! When you're trying something new, slow down and really make sure that you are doing it correctly. Don't rush the movements if you're unsure of what you're doing. If the instructor can't help you right in the moment, talk to them after class and get the information that you need!
6. Give yourself a pat on the back!
Starting something new is hard! Be proud of yourself for a job well done! When it comes to your health, consistency is key! Keep coming to class, keep trying, and the results will come!
